Celtic Connections

Following November’s release of their new duo album Bare Knuckle, Shetland fiddler Chris Stout and harp trailblazer Catriona McKay host an unprecedented meeting of disparate musical worlds, highlighting their myriad musical adventures since 2010’s previous release, White Nights. The pair’s ongoing creative relationship with top contemporary string orchestra Scottish Ensemble dates from their collaboration on Sally Beamish’s Seavaigers, premiŤred at Celtic Connections 2012, while they first worked with Fife indie-folk troubadour King Creosote on a specially-commissioned Valentine’s Day show in 2015, and more recently at the opening of the new Queensferry Crossing.

†Another of the night’s guests, the astounding S„o Paulo vocalist and body-percussionist Marcelo Preto, reflects Stout’s continuing exploration of Brazilian music, since his Brazilian Theory project in 2010-11. Centred on the new Bare Knuckle material – almost entirely self-penned – the programme will feature a variety of groupings within this line-up, together with full-ensemble arrangements.
